Prof. Maciej Pieczarka’s team wins the Tesla Prize!
The international team of Dr. Maciej Pieczarka from the Department of Experimental Physics received this year’s Tesla Prize.
The Tesla Prize, awarded since 2023, recognizes achievements that stand out for their originality and impact on a scientific discipline and their social or economic environment. The Tesla Prize honors the distinguished scientist Nikola Tesla, whose creative and unconventional approach to problem-solving transformed the world of science.
In the third edition of the competition, the jury, chaired by Prof. Paweł Hawrylak from the University of Ottawa, decided to award the project “Bose-Einstein Condensation of Photons in VCSEL Semiconductor Lasers – Discovery of a New Mode of Operation of Laser Devices,” carried out by an international research team led by Dr. Maciej Pieczarka.

The team includes: Aleksandra Bojakowska, M.Sc. (Department of Experimental Physics), Dr. Marcin Gębski, (Łódź University of Technology), Prof. James A. Lott (Technical University of Berlin), Dr. Axel Pelster (RPTU University Kaiserslautern-Landau), Dr. Michał Wasiak (Łódź University of Technology) and Prof. Tomasz Czyszanowski (Łódź University of Technology). The award is sponsored by KGHM Polska Miedź.
