Dr. Andrzej Nowok receives Sonata grant!

Eleven people from Wrocław University of Science and Technology were among the winners of the National Science Centre’s Sonata 21 competition. Among them was Dr. Andrzej Nowok from the Department of Experimental Physics.

The project that received funding is: “Isotopic labeling: a new step in deciphering phase transitions and molecular dynamics in hybrid perovskites” and the amount received is: PLN 1,115,568.

Organic-inorganic perovskite compounds are among the most promising next-generation materials, determining the development of future photovoltaic and optoelectronic technologies. Their properties conceal a dynamic world of molecules and ions capable of rapid movement, strongly dependent on external conditions and the applied electric field.

In this project, Dr. Nowok will uncover the mechanisms governing these processes using isotopic labeling (replacing selected hydrogen atoms with the heavier deuterium). This will allow for the precise identification of molecular motions responsible for phase transitions and key dielectric properties. The results will pave the way for the design of materials with better controllable functional parameters.

The Sonata competition is open to researchers with a doctoral degree (obtained 2 to 7 years prior to submitting the application) and supports early-career researchers in conducting innovative research. Projects can last 12, 24, or 36 months.

In this edition of the competition, 1,348 applications were submitted, with a total value of over PLN 1.6 billion. Ultimately, 243 projects were selected for funding, totaling PLN 342 million.
