Advanced Methods of Semiconductor Research Seminar – Tuesday 9th of June 2026

We cordially invite you to Advanced Methods of Semiconductor Research Seminar on Tuesday 9th of June 2026 at 13:15 in room 321, building A-1, where there will be delivered a lecture:

Terahertz Radiation – from Astronomy and Spectroscopy to Non-Destructive Testing and Telecommunication

by Col. Prof. Norbert Pałka
from Institute of Optoelectronics, Military University of Technology

—————————————————————————————————————————

Lecture abstract:
Terahertz radiation, covering the range between microwaves and infrared (0.1–10 THz), remained for a long time one of the least explored regions of the electromagnetic spectrum due to technological difficulties in its generation and detection. However, the rapid development of THz sources and detectors in recent years has made it possible to overcome this barrier, opening new research and application perspectives.
The lecture will present an overview of terahertz radiation applications, including astronomical observations, spectroscopy for the identification of chemical substances, and imaging techniques used in non-destructive testing and security systems. Thanks to its ability to penetrate selected materials while being safe for living organisms, this technology is finding increasingly widespread practical use.
The latest research directions will also be discussed, particularly those related to the use of terahertz waves in next-generation wireless communication systems (6G), enabling very high data transmission rates.
